What is Global Leaders Week Abroad?
During Spring Break 2019, students will participate in EOE’s Global Leaders Week Abroad in Amsterdam, Netherlands and Barcelona, Spain, for an intense experience as a global engineering leader. Our 2019 student participants are selected from EOE’s Career Development and Leadership seminars, which provide a crucial foundation for our participants to make the most of their study abroad experience. 10 days in length, GLW is a high-impact experience where our students are able to practice and implement the career skills and professionalism that they have learned in class. During the week, students will visit local companies, city centers, and universities to learn more about regional engineering challenges. They will use their recently acquired skills from the seminars to showcase their academics, professionalism and cultural experiences, and begin their development into future global leaders.
Who is attending Global Leaders Week 2019?
60% of the group has never before participated in a university study abroad program, making this an especially exciting year for the program. Over 40% of our participants are women, reflecting our goal to encourage more women to pursue degrees in engineering. Additionally, in keeping with our commitment to ensuring that this program is affordable and available to all students regardless of family income, over 60% come from low-income backgrounds and 35% are 1st generation. Collectively, our group will represent over 7 different engineering majors (ARE, ASE, BME, CE, CHE, ECE, ME) and many different parts of Texas.
How can you contribute?
The Equal Opportunity in Engineering program believes in the transformative nature of having a study abroad experience, and is committed to ensuring that our unique abroad program is affordable and open to a diversity of students. Your financial support will help ensure that deserving students who may not otherwise pursue international opportunities are able to participate, regardless of financial limitations.
