Send the UT Jazz Orchestra to Brazil
Our project:
The UT Jazz Orchestra, the university’s premiere jazz ensemble, hopes to tour Brazil in August 2020, with performances at jazz festivals and cultural centers in São Paulo and other cities. We are excited to bring the University of Texas' name to South America, and share our finely-honed skills with Brazilian audiences!
This fundraiser will help defray some of the costs associated with a trip to Brazil by the UT Jazz Orchestra. The trip will provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to share their music with Brazilian audiences. Visits to Brazilian cultural centers such as jazz festivals and universities will provide a valuable cultural exchange through the art form of jazz.
Our Commitment:
As part of our Core Values, UT is committed to Learning, Discovery, and
Individual Opportunity. The UT Jazz Orchestra, through the work ethic of our performers, the creativity of our student composers, and the strength of our
student leadership make exemplary ambassadors of the values at the heart
of the UT community.
Get Involved!
We have a funding goal of $10,000. Our project will fund costs associated with the UT Jazz Orchestra performing concerts in Brazil in the summer of 2020. These costs include airfare, hotel, and ground transportation. Donate now to help Send UT Jazz to Brazil!
$32
Stage Manager
Did you know that just 17 students played 32 different instruments on our last concert? That includes trumpet, trombone, and saxophones, flute, piccolo, clarinet, Bass clarinet, Tuba, acoustic guitar, and flugelhorn, to name a few! That’s a crowded stage!
$45.54
Tour Manager
The state of Sao Paulo is the most populous state in Brazil, with over 45,540,000 people. We hope to get them all dancing when we visit!
$88
Arranger
A full piano has 88 keys, from really low notes, to incredibly high. A good arranger knows how to use every one.
$133
Artistic Coordinator
Tarsila de Aguiar do Amaral was one of the great modernist painters of Brazil. If she were alive today, she’d be 133!
$201.08

Cacilda Borges Barbosa was a Brazilian pianist, conductor and composer who pioneered electronic music. She lived until 2010 in August.
$500
Assistant Director
Assistant directors do everything behind the scenes that make performances go off without a hitch, including printing, binding, passing out, and collecting music. That can be 500 pages or more, for a single concert!
$1,000
Director
The Director is the lynchpin of any project. They know a performance inside and out and see the 1000 tiny details that make it up, and also understand the big picture bird's eye view from 1000 ft up.
$5,000
Executive Director
Did you know the distance between Austin and Sao Paulo is about 5,000 miles? 5,012, to be exact. We will travel every one of those miles thanks to your help. Any donor who would like to join this level will have a song from one of our student composers dedicated to them and video of the performance will be available to view and share!
