#GivingTuesday Results and BeVolt Acquisitions!

December 02, 2015

We had a very successful #GivingTuesday yesterday, raising nearly 25% of our fundraising goal in ONE DAY!! With your contributions, the team was also able to purchase two Tritium motor controllers! One will be installed and used to control the 5 HP motor for the BeVolt. The other will serve as a teaching and testing platform to familiarize students with motor control operation, theory, and integration into the solar car's electrical system. There are only a couple days left in the HornRaiser, and we would like to reach our goal soon! Please continue to share our page among your friends, family, and coworkers via Facebook, Twitter, and email- none of this would be possible without your continued support! Our team would also like to thank the following donors:

  • Bill Hilton
  • Damon Borich
  • Robert Torres

Thank you for contributing to the UT Solar Vehicles Team!

#GivingTuesday shout-outs and BeVolt updates!

December 01, 2015

We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday! Today is #GivingTuesday , and we would like to thank our contributors for helping us reach nearly half of our fundraising goal! We are welcoming these new donors, including ECE and Cockrell Engineering School alumni!

Many thanks to:

  • Eldon Sims
  • Mario Sanchez
  • Paul Calmes
  • Will Franklin
  • Chris Such
  • Adrian Matthys
  • Kristen Palughi

Your incredible support of our team is helping fund many of our projects. Angus, an electrical team member, and his senior design team are working to create a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) to interface between the solar array and battery pack to aid in recharging. His team designed this circuit from scratch and is looking forward to install this circuit into the BeVolt, once completed. We have also created the new brake and turn signal light for the BeVolt- a test our custom printed circuit board manufacturing sponsor wanted to try! Please continue to share our page via Facebook, Twitter, and email using hashtags #GivingTuesday #utsvt #bevolt to help us reach 100% of our fundraising goal. None of this would be possible without your continued support!

Thank you for contributing to the UT Solar Vehicles Team!

BeVolt Progress

November 12, 2015

A special thank you to Mortenson Construction for becoming a gold level sponsor of BeVolt! Here are some quick mechanical updates: Our chassis is coming along well and we will be done with the design before the Thanksgiving break. We will then finish cutting the tubes with Athena Manufacturing of Austin before the December break. Since the only changes left for the chassis are minor, the body team has started their work. Attached are some screenshots of a concept body. They will be cutting 1:7 scale model variants of this body for on-campus wind tunnel testing and tweaking accordingly for improved efficiency. We would like to also thank the Sheet Metal Workers International Association of Austin by providing welding classes for five of our team members. Keep an eye our for more updates!

Thank you again for all contributions to UTSVT!

Mauricio Silveyra, Mechanical Lead

First Week Thank-Yous!

October 26, 2015

On behalf of the UT Solar Vehicles Team, I would like to thank the following donors: Dr. Robert Metcalfe, whurley*, Jose DeSouza, and Yamit Lavi! Your generous contributions to our team have given us a great head-start in our HornRaiser! With your donations to the team, we have already purchased some new amateur radio antennas, WiFi antennas, and transceivers for communicating voice and data between the solar car and the team support vehicles convoy (pictures shortly). These new purchases will help support the data and vehicle telemetry projects for the solar car and support/strategy team. If we raise a couple more thousand in the next week, we can  purchase lithium ion cells that will be tested and assembled to create our main battery pack for the BeVolt! Stay tuned for more updates from the UT Solar Vehicles Team.

Thank you for contributing to the UT-SVT!
