Gig Economy Working Conditions Study

Whether you take a Lyft to the airport, get your groceries delivered through Instacart, or get a package delivered from Amazon, you are most likely a consumer of the gig economy. The growth of the gig economy has prompted a national conversation on how and when people work and how it shapes their personal and family lives, yet little research has studied the topic in depth. The Gig Economy Working Conditions Study seeks to better understand people’s experiences working in the gig economy and how their work shapes their personal lives and mental health. Today, I ask you to donate to the Gig Economy Working Conditions Study.

Funding will go directly toward rigorous data collection and analysis. I will conduct a mixed methods study using a nation-wide survey and 48 in-depth interviews with workers in the gig economy.

As the American middle class continues to shrink, it is important to understand who thrives and who simply survives in the gig economy. The Gig Economy Working Conditions Study will produce innovative research essential to ensuring that the health and wellbeing of gig economy workers is not forgotten. A contribution of any amount is helpful and greatly appreciated!
