The team has seen a lot of progress the past few years, and last year we qualified for and attended Nationals in both the Co-ed and Women's divisions at Old Dominion University. As we continue to see improvement going into this academic year, we expect to qualify again and are taking steps to do better this year both in terms of sailing and financial ability. As our coach said in August, "Our goal isn't qualifying again, but making it past semi-finals this year".
The ICSA 2019 Nationals will be hosted in Newport, Rhode Island in late May - early June.
Should we not qualify this year, the fundraised money will go towards buying a new fleet of boats in 2020, which is a project we've been working on since we last bought boats almost seven years ago. Seven years is the typical turnover time for 420s and FJs, which are the types of boats we sail, as this keeps them in top condition and up to date with the boats we race in at Championships and Nationals.
Thank you for your donation! - The UT Sailing Team
You are the crew of the boat; you are mainly in charge of trimming the jib sail, rigging, and balancing your weight in the boat so that it doesn't heel.
You are the skipper of the boat; you trim the main sail, operate the tiller, and make racing decisions (with the help of your trustee crew, of course).
