Ethical Leadership Fellowship

The Fellowship At A Glance

This is a student-organized campaign to help raise funds for a fellowship in ethical leadership in the name of Dr. Howard T. Prince II (Brig General, Ret.). The Howard T Prince II Fellowship in Ethical Leadership will be awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to ethical leadership in their community and who have inspired others to act with the integrity we expect from our leaders. This fellowship will only available to students who are in their second year or later at UT.

Students will have to be nominated by their peers. A panel consisting of the LBJ School of Public Affairs senior leadership, faculty, and students will select the recipient(s) each year. The size (and number of awards) of the fellowship will depend on how large an endowment we can set up. Our goal is raise sufficient funds to begin issuing awards in Fall 2019. All students awarded this fellowship will also receive a certificate and their efforts will be recognized by the LBJ School. Your support can help make this a meaningful fellowship and help drive the change that our community, country, and the world need. You can find the official fellowship brochure here.

About Dr. Prince...

Howard T. Prince II has devoted his life to serving his country and developing ethical leaders. From the battlefield to university classrooms, Dr. Prince has inspired men and woman to lead with integrity, forethought, and honor. His service and commitment to ethical leadership began in the military where he was awarded nine medals, including a Silver Star.

After recovering from a serious combat injury, Prince earned a doctorate degree in psychology at UT Austin before returning to the United States Military Academy. Dr. Prince was instrumental at setting up leadership training and programs at West Point, which is today a standard part of the curriculum. His advocacy for improved leadership training earned him an early promotion as he became the youngest colonel in the army.

He lead the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at West Point and oversaw other reforms before he moved to the Jepson School at the University of Richmond and launched a Leadership Studies program. Back at the University of Texas at Austin, he has continued developing leaders and leadership programs.

Dr. Howard Prince has committed decades of his life to developing leaders and his career is a testament to his own belief in ethical leadership. The Howard T. Prince II Fellowship in Ethical Leadership seeks to endow a legacy of developing future generations of ethical leaders in the public and private sectors.

You can read more about Dr. Prince's distinguished career, views on leadership, and life story here and his West Point contributions here. Dr. Prince's official biography at the LBJ School School can be found on the faculty page.

Our Long-Term Goals

The goal of this campaign is to raise funds so that we may officially launch the fellowship. However, we plan to continue our work in the future and, with long-term partners, in order to raise sufficient funds over the coming years to continue growing the fellowship's endowment. Your support will help us create a strong base on which can build a significant fellowship, continue recognizing Dr. Prince's efforts, and recognize leaders in our community.
