This past Fall, the Alpha Tau Chapter inducted 28 new Brothers into our Fraternity! Every Fall, we recruit a new class of dedicated Longhorn Band members to represent our Chapter in the future. Our endowed scholarship represents our commitment to them and classes of Brothers for years to come.
The Alpha Tau Chapter currently has 56 Active Brothers, representing majors all across campus, instruments throughout the Longhorn Band, and hometowns all over the country. We share a common interest in serving the Longhorn Band and Austin community!
This year, the Alpha Tau Chapter helped 154 band members complete their iconic Longhorn Band uniforms with western-style dress shirts! We are happy to provide this service, especially for new members of the band!
Brothers of Alpha Tau collectively participated in 444 service activities this past Fall, representing nearly 1000 collective hours of time spent setting up Longhorn Band equipment, handing out food and drinks during football games, and volunteering.
Every home football game, the Alpha Tau Chapter is responsible for providing each member of Longhorn Band an apple and a Gatorade. This translates to our Brothers being responsible for handing out approximately 900 total items to the rest of the Longhorn Band at one game!
In May of 1940, twenty-eight members of the University of Texas Longhorn Band, under the direction of Colonel George E. Hurt, petitioned the national office of Kappa Kappa Psi for a charter. The charter was granted, eventually making way for the University of Texas at Austin’s Alpha Tau Chapter! In the 79 years since our founding, we have continued to grow and serve the Longhorn Band and Austin community!
To be on track to raise $25,000 over five years for our endowed scholarship, we have set an annual $5,000 goal. We thank you for your interest in our Chapter and all of the amazing work we do for the Longhorn Band and Austin community!
