Our Crowdfunding Groups
Girasol's Social Work Detention Response Team has enabled social work students and professionals to provide support to immigrant families in detention for over two years. Last December we expanded our support to trips to the U.S.-Mexico border. These trips provide valuable opportunities for social work students to learn more about immigration at the front lines and strengthen their bilingual skills.
Through our first border trip, we:
Provided trauma training for over 50 PROBar legal staff members,
Worked with the Angry Tias y Abuelas RGV to orient over 30 migrant families released to the McAllen bus station, and
Volunteered at the Catholic Charities shelter that receives 300-400 asylum seekers per day.
