Meet Kristian!

Kristian Jones is a third-year doctoral student at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at UT Austin. Kristian received his Bachelor’s in Psychology from Albany State University and his Master’s in Education from Boston University where he studied Counseling with a concentration in Sport and Performance Psychology. Kristian is interested in researching ways youth mentoring can be utilized to improve positive youth development for the youth of color and promote the mental health of marginalized youth. Kristian’s overall goal is to combine his clinical experience with his scholarly research to find innovative and relevant ways to empower youth, families, and communities.

Meet Katelyn!

Katelyn is a post-BSWstudent pursing her MSSW at UT Austin. She currently serves as State Representative Jarvis Johnson's Chief of Staff and has worked on several major criminal justice reform bills. Katelyn is currently working at the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition for her field placement. After graduation, Katelyn will be moving to Washington D.C to pursue a career in Criminal Justice reform advocacy."

Meet Ashlee!

Ashlee Silver is a first-year Master of Science in Social Work student pursuing the Administration and Policy Practice concentration. She is currently interning with the Council on At-Risk Youth at Del Valle High School where she works with students using Aggression Replacement Training (ART). She is also a Longhorn Impact Fellow (LIFT) on campus. Last year she served an Americorps term with the American Red Cross working in the Service to the Armed Forces Department, International Services Department, and as a member of the California Disaster Team. During her service term, she helped coordinate community events and programs, including World Refugee Day at the LA Public Library, in partnership with the mayor’s office and the Refugee Forum

of Los Angeles. Ashlee is very interested in the role of public funding and how it affects policy decisions on all levels, domestically and internationally.

Meet Amanda!

Amanda Cantu is a first-year master's student from San Antonio, Texas. She is currently interning at the Travis County Family Drug Court under the Parenting in Recovery Program where she serves as a case manager for participants in the program. Amanda also works as the Research Coordinator at the DiNitto Center and the Teaching Assistant for the Introductory Bridging Disciplines class social Inequalities, Health, & Policy. Amanda plans on pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Work in hopes of conducting research that will contribute to dismantling institutional racism. Specifically, she hopes to advocate for equitable policy changes in our criminal justice, child welfare, and education systems while educating college students about macro social work topics.

Meet Kollette!

Kollette Zamora is a second-year Bachelor of Social Work student. She currently holds a board position for a student-run Non-Profit based in Austin called Socks for the Sole. Kollette is the first in her family to attend college. She hopes to continue her education by pursuing a dual graduate degree in Social Work and Public Affairs. Kollette hopes a trip to Washington, D.C.will give her the opportunities to broaden her horizons in social welfare and find equitable ways to help her hometown community of San Antonio, Texas.
