Longhorn Wrestling is the only wrestling club here at the University of Texas. We have both male and female teams that compete in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA). In the NCWA, we compete a variety of schools in our region including Texas A&M, Texas State, and Texas Tech and also compete against schools all around the country at nationals. Longhorn Wrestling is open to both experienced and unexperienced wrestlers, both of which we hope to develop into the best wrestlers possible. Our practices for the season started October 1 and our first tournament this year will be the Longhorn Classic, which will be hosted here on campus. After the Longhorn Classic, we will be competing in tournaments that are held all over our region until nationals which is in March.
Last season we had three wrestlers, Enrique Munguia, Luci Schement, and Gilmar Ortega, qualify for national last year. Luci Schement took first place at nationals in the 116 lbs weight class. With the achievements from last year, we hope to ride this momentum into this upcoming season and carry on the success into this year.
