Help Build a Kitchen for a School in Thailand!

สวัสดี (hello)! We are Projects with Underserved Communities (PUC) Team Thailand! Our mission is to convert a termite-infested storage room into a well-functioning kitchen for the Bannonggo School in Suphan Buri, Thailand. However, we need YOUR HELP to make this happen!

Who Are We?

Our team consists of 7 committed UT students from the Cockrell School of Engineering and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. We are very eager to create a lasting impact on an underserved community by utilizing our passions for engineering and social work! Not only will we plan and design the project, but we will also implement and sustain the project in Thailand! That said, the $15,000 fundraised will go directly to our project and will not cover our personal travel expenses.

What Are We Doing?

We are partnering with the New Life Church in Suphan Buri who works closely with the surrounding schools and villages, including the Bannonggo School. This will allow us to gain a better understanding of the needs the community and act on them as we design and build the kitchen. Throughout the entire project, we will also be collaborating with experienced professors, practicing engineers, and local thai contractors to get advice on the feasibility and durability of our designs.

In respect to the actual project, we will be converting the Bannonggo School’s termite-infested storage room into a well-functioning kitchen. The storage room, which is about 20 feet by 23 feet, will be torn down prior to our arrival by the community due to termite damage, which will then allow us to build the kitchen from the ground up. For reference, the pink building is the school and the grey building is the room acting as a storage space. The inside of the storage space is also pictured from walking through the mint green door.

The school currently does not have a kitchen. They have relied on other funds to cater meals everyday for their students ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade. Often times, the lunch received from the school is the only meal some of the students receive in a day, so a kitchen is necessary to provide these students with a proper nutritious meal in a sustainable manner. Also, any leftover food from the kitchen will go directly to the local families in the surrounding villages, so both the health and nutrition of the students and local families are impacted.

Your generous contributions will cover all aspects of the kitchen. Since the storage room is connected to the school, we will design and construct three walls and a roof with concrete and metal materials to eliminate any future termite concerns. We will also design and provide electricity to ensure the kitchen appliances properly work and a plumbing system to supply easily accessible water. Currently, the school’s closest water source is from a well that is about 50 feet away. We will also design and construct the sinks for cooking and washing dishes and counter tops for adequate cooking space.
