Women in Cinema

Women in Cinema is a young-women led student organization at The University of Texas at Austin. Our mission is to support and empower ALL diverse voices in film and media -- We aim to diversify the next generation of industry film and media makers by empowering those who are ready to tell their own unique and previously unheard stories. Help us do that by supporting WIC members at UTLA!

The funds raised in this campaign will help finance the costs of studying abroad in the UTLA program; whether it be for flights, food, or transportation, all $2,000 will go towards deserving WIC member(s) attending UTLA!

The UTLA semester in Los Angeles, that we are hoping to provide additional grants for, offers the opportunity for students from all majors, who are interested in the media and entertainment industry, to have an immersive semester in Los Angeles during the fall, spring, or summer. This opportunity builds an incredible and indispensable foundation for young creators (for people in all industries) to grow a healthy and successful career. UTLA students gain on-the-job experiences and connections via an internship in their area of career interest and take courses taught by industry professionals at the University’s regional location: The Wofford Denius UTLA Center for Entertainment and Media Studies in Burbank, California.

The UTLA program connects the classroom to career and allows students to learn from working Hollywood professionals, in the entertainment capital of the world. This Los Angeles semester simply cannot be replicated elsewhere. We hope to diversify the UTLA program, and thus the greater industry, by allowing more empowered students of more diverse backgrounds and genders into its branches. As UT's own mantra goes, we truly believe that what starts here will change the greater industry and then the world as we empower those, with voices previously unheard or quieted, in all respective fields.
