Longhorn Jiu-Jitsu's Inaugural Year

Longhorn BJJ was founded in 2005 and has recently transformed into the official Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club of the University of Texas. Our club is dedicated to providing quality yet affordable submission grappling instruction for UT students in a safe, central, and fun environment.

Last year, our club was promoted from an on-campus organization to an official RecSport recognized by the University. The privileges that we look forward to enjoying with our new status as a University of Texas RecSport Club are packaged with requirements and obligations, each bearing their own price-tags. A few our newfound expenses include sanitation equipment/supplies for our mats (to prevent infection), annual dues (for eligibility to fight in national intercollegiate competition circuits), fulfilling our community service commitment (by orchestrating recurring self-defense seminars for local women's organizations), travel expenses to and from tournaments, and entry fees for our fighters to compete in those tournaments.

The students, graduate students, faculty, and staff of UT Austin's campus provide an extraordinarily diverse pool of talent. Our members train for many reasons, including competition, self defense, and personal growth. UT BJJ takes pride in that diversity, including socioeconomic diversity. Training at private clubs outside the University is prohibitively expensive for students, not to mention the ancillary costs of personal safety gear and proper training attire. Most of our active members pay dues, but many are unable. With your help, we will be able to provide our members with affordable training prices, team specific grappling gear (such as  rashguards and spats), and entry fees to intercollegiate competitions where we will strive to become the top grappling club in the state.

We are on the cusp of making the dream of a legitimate University of Texas Jiu-Jitsu team a reality. We, the active members of UT BJJ, ask for your help to make our inaugural year as a RecSports Club a success. If you love Jiu-Jitsu, if you love someone who does Jiu-Jitsu at UT, if you once called our club yours: please support us by donating now.
