Trailer Renovation Update

July 14, 2016

Thank you to everyone who donated to our Hornsraiser. Although our Hornsraiser fell a little short, we will still carry on with our renovations!

Many of our SAE members are in the middle of internships across the country, so we will begin construction on the interior renovations when school begins. We will have these done by Labor Day weekend for the UT Autcross race and car show.

We recieved a quote for the trailer's wrap to be $2,000 to $3,000. Because we fell short by $750, we are going to hold off on the wrap until we have purchased all materials for the interior and can asses exactly how much money can be spent on the wrap. Then we can find a vendor we can afford or we will try to raise more money.

We are going to post more updates as we work on the trailer, and everyone who has donated will hear from us soon about the perk levels. Thanks again for your support of UT SAE!

2015 FSAE Lincoln Results

June 22, 2016

Longhorn Racing competed in the 2016 FSAE Lincoln competition this weekend and placed 31st out of 80 international universities.  This is an improvement from last year's finish of 45th.

Longhorn Racing placed 14th in the autocross event, 20th in acceleration,  21st in design presentation. Unfortunately, the endurance event is the heaviest weighted event at the competition, and a leaking differential caused the team not to finish.

We are very proud of how fast our car was,  and we have plans to make next year's car faster and more reliable. Because so many key members of this year's team are returning next year, we will have very experienced leadership, a critical element to a successful team.

The renovations we are making to our trailer will be a major facilitator for our teams continued improvement. We have high hopes for the two teams that our trailer will take to competition next year. Thank you for your help in allowing us to progress as an organization.

SAE Trailer Update #2: Longhorns Racing Electric

June 07, 2016

We are now on the brink of reaching two thirds of our fundraising goal! Thank you to everyone who has already donated!

Longhorn Racing Electric (LHRe) is already hard at work preparing for the 2017 Lincoln FSAE competition. The electric team is made up of mostly underclassman who have spent the last semester researching and designing the electric vehicle. Their team will be using lithium ion batteries instead of gasoline as a power source, but their car's drivetrain will be similar to LHR's combustion car.

Due to the complex nature of electric powered motors and the rigorous technical standards of the Formula SAE Electric competition, very few entrants pass technical inspection and complete all of the dynamic events without mechanical failure. LHRe has decided to focus their design on reliability and legality for their first competition in order to ensure they finish the competition.  If LHRe successfully passes all inspections and events, it is very likely LHRe will place among the top 10 schools at competition.

We are very excited about LHRe's progress and hope you will contribute to our Hornsraiser so that our trailer will be able to accommodate for them! Please help us get over the 50% mark, we are extremely close and every donation counts!

First Week Update!

May 29, 2016

We are very happy to announce that our interior renovations are now funded! Because we raised this money so quickly, we will begin work on the interior and likely have the shelves done before the 2016 FSAE Lincoln competition!

We are still raising money to fix the exterior damage and apply a new vinyl wrap. Our team is very proud of our university, and we want to make sure that we show it at FSAE competition and community outreach events. Last year, Longhorn Racing participated in Introduce a girl to Engineering day (shown below), South by Southwest, and the Pack 1502 Pinewood derby.

We also want to emphasize that every donation counts, especially donations in the $10 to $25 range! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and we look forward to everyone's support.
