Longhorn TIES is now in a position to be able to better support our students thanks to our generous donors. The ability to award funds to students who need help seeking medical care, purchasing basic necessities and support in their academic endeavors will strengthen the TIES program and help these students to attain their ultimate goal of graduation. ABOUT LONGHORN TIES
The Longhorn TIES (Transition, Inclusion, Empower, Success) initiative seeks to improve the student experience for UT-Austin undergraduate students who identify as being on the autism spectrum or neurodivergent through advocacy, connections, and training. The program which launched in 2020, provides support to students which begins with new student orientation, and extends through graduation. Longhorn TIES provides various support services such as weekly and bi-weekly coaching meetings to address student’s academic, social, and career-related goals. Students participating in Longhorn TIES engage in monthly meetings, social events, professional development, and additional skill development training.
WHY LONGHORN TIES NEEDS A SUPPORT FUND
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Longhorn TIES has seen a significant increase in students seeking support services throughout the campus. At the start of the program we provided support to 8 students and now have grown to support 23 students just one year later. When unexpected events occur, students have a difficult time adjusting to these changes, and should these events occur, we want to ensure our students have access to the appropriate resources to address their needs. This student support fund will assist students in addressing their immediate needs so they can continue fulfilling their academic, personal and professional obligations.
