Thank you so SO much for donating to (Untitled) Fanon! With your help, I can photograph, develop, print, and display my work in my first solo exhibition! Once again, thank you so much!
What is (Untitled) Fanon?
(Untitled) Fanon is a solo exhibition that will take place at the Visual Arts Center (VAC), a contemporary art gallery housed in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin. This exhibition delves into the issues surrounding the definition of culture and the intricacies of race. (Untitled) Fanon is a visual assemblage of personal moments and social performances that question the defining qualities of what it means to be Black.
This show draws inspiration from the literary work of Frantz Fanon (b. 1925), a renowned Black psychiatrist and philosopher who made significant contributions to postcolonial theory and critical studies in the twentieth century and has influenced the way I think about and experience Blackness. With the influence of Fanon's words and the incorporation of personal memories (Untitled) Fanon traverses the personal signifiers I utilize to solidify my Blackness.
Entry to the VAC is always free, and the show will be on display from September 24 – December 3, 2021. Learn more about the Visual Arts Center here.

What does your donation do?
I'm very excited and grateful that I've been given the opportunity to showcase my art at UT's Visual Arts Center. Given that this is my first solo exhibition, I want to create and display the best work that I can! Your donation will go towards the costs of developing, scanning, printing, and mounting photographs for the show. Donations will also go towards special programming events that will continually encourage discussion within the Visual Arts Center.

What impact will this exhibition make?
With the onslaught of increasing racial tension in America and on UT's campus, I believe that this exhibition will encourage important dialogue between students, faculty, and other spectators. I hope that (Untitled) Fanon will encourage other BIPOC students to use their voices and realize how important they are.
What is Center Space Project?
Center Space Project (CSP) is a student-run curatorial collective that works in conjunction with the Visual Arts Center and provides opportunities to UT students interested in participating in a larger artistic community. The organization fosters dialogue between undergraduate and graduate students as well as art professionals outside of the University. Members contribute their unique interests and skills to the collaborative production of exhibitions and events in Austin.
CSP releases an open call for exhibition proposals every spring semester. Untitled (Fanon) is one of the two exhibitions selected to be displayed during the 2021-2022 academic year.
