MEETING THE GROWING CHALLENGE OF DEMENTIA
In the United States, people with memory problems wait about 18 months for a formal diagnosis. At the Comprehensive Memory Center, the goal is to shorten this period, getting people help sooner — and making connections to cutting-edge research, support and treatment options.
As our population ages, more and more families across Texas and the U.S. are affected by dementia. Memory disorders take a toll on both patients and caregivers, but too often care treats the patient only. The Comprehensive Memory Center at Dell Medical School’s Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences envisions a better way, with swift diagnosis, multidisciplinary team-based care, and support for the entire family. The goal is that patients and caregivers live the highest quality of life possible from the point of diagnosis onward. The team provides one-stop, whole-person care, including opportunities to participate in clinical trials and research.
