Founded in 1980, Texas Ballroom is one of UT Austin’s few ballroom dancesport organizations. We hold weekly classes throughout the school year where we teach students, faculty, and staff many styles of dance that include ballroom, social and country. We strive to create as many opportunities as possible to meet the needs of our members, from weekly socials, to monthly variety dances, to larger events like our annual ball or collegiate ballroom competition.
A significant portion of the funds will be used towards our collegiate competition in April - Austin Open - to pay for judges and officials. Members of our Country Competition Team will also be competing at Nationals and Worlds later this year, so a portion of the funds will go towards their entrance and dance fees. In addition, funds will help our Ballroom Competition Team travel to Massachusetts to compete at MIT's competition in the spring.
In 2013, Texas Ballroom revived the Ballroom Competition Team. Over the course of that year, the team experienced immense growth, allowing a second team to be created - the Country Competition Team. Both teams compete at national level competitions across the country where many of our team members receive high recognition and marks.
We are excited to have many members of our Country Team be able to compete at Nationals and Worlds this semester. After working hard throughout the year, they will be able to represent UT and demonstrate their skills and techniques on a large stage. Ten members will compete at Nationals on November 18-20 and six members will compete at Worlds on January 1-8.

The Ballroom Competition Team will travel to Rice University's ballroom competition - Dances with Owls - on November 5. In February, they will attend the University of Houston's Cougar Classic competition. The team will then end their season by traveling to Massachusetts and competing at MIT's collegiate competition in April. MIT's event is the largest collegiate ballroom competition on the East Coast, attracting competitors from all over. MIT is a wonderful place for our members to showcase their skills.
