2022 Class Gift: Steve Hicks School of Social Work

Through the Office of the Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion (OADEI), the Steve Hicks School is working toward fostering a diverse and inclusive environment founded in mutual respect, and appreciation of differences, and the dismantling of systems of privilege. This means standing for social justice for individuals and communities facing oppression, and rejecting all forms of hate, marginalization, discrimination, and violence.

Some of our current goals and initiatives include:

  • Providing meaningful and ongoing equity and inclusion trainings for faculty and staff.
  • Provide opportunities for enriching equity and inclusion in (and out of) the classroom.
  • Provide comprehensive mentorship to ensure equity for faculty, staff and students.
  • Apply metrics for measuring the effectiveness of our initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment of our initiatives with existing school policies and practices.

Your gift will help us achieve these goals by providing resources to hire expert trainers and consultants, provide professional development opportunities for faculty and students, and eventually support more student-driven initiatives.

"It's time to recognize the privileges we have and educate ourselves about how to use our privileges to create change. Educating yourself takes time and that’s ok. Creating safe spaces for vulnerability and learning is critical for raising awareness of the many social justice issues marginalized groups face, and in finding ways to dismantle systematic racism and discrimination." – SHSSW Staff Member
