Bringing the World to Texas through UT Libraries Global Initiatives

The University of Texas Libraries is raising funds to partner with collaborators around the world to bolster our global collections. In addition to acquiring unique materials from around the world, our librarians also form deep global professional networks that allow UT Libraries to partner in the digitization of materials.  Such partnerships allow the original materials to stay at home in their country of origin while also making them virtually accessible through our collections here at UT Austin.

With your support, we can send our librarians to countries around the world with the resources they need to build relationships that deepen and distinguish our physical and digital collections.  As the global mindset around ethical acquisitions is changing, we no longer envision collection development as solely a process of traveling to other countries, buying materials, and removing the originals to a library on the other side of the world.   Rather, more efforts are being made to establish long-lasting horizontal partnerships that benefit all parties involved. This process allows our university to further represent a global population both in our materials and the diversity of its users worldwide.

For our Global Studies Librarians, traveling to countries that represent their area of expertise plays a central role in their ability to provide the most up-to-date and wide-ranging collections to UT students and library patrons across the world. Their in-person relationship building allows UT Library patrons access to materials that are unique and unavailable anywhere else.
