ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Texas Theme Park Engineering and Design (TxTPED) haunted house serves as an incubator for UT students of all disciplines (art, engineering, and beyond) to create meaningful portfolio pieces. The final collaborative project not only provides students with pieces that can further their potential for employment but also serves as an entertaining haunted house to delight Austinites of all ages!
Since 2017, Texas Theme Park Engineering and Design has put on an annual “House of Horrors”. Building the haunted house requires skills from many disciplines, from electrical and mechanical engineering to acting and graphic design. It is also an excellent opportunity for engineering and art students who are interested in themed entertainment to get some experience working on a project that is closely tied to the industry. In this way, we are increasing awareness of the themed entertainment industry and giving students opportunities for hands-on learning. The best part? The final product was not only something that served to help the students but also entertained the City of Austin, allowing residents to visit a spooky and fun haunted house.
After last year’s haunt, which was our most ambitious project to date, we have a base structure and props we can reuse, giving us a better starting point to achieve even more. With increased funds to make new technical elements a reality, we hope to provide an outlet for engineering, studio art, and performing arts students to gain hands-on experience in creating something that the greater UT community will enjoy. We are eagerly looking forward to getting the funding and making these plans a reality.
ABOUT TEXAS THEME PARK ENGINEERING AND DESIGN
Texas Theme Park Engineering and Design is a student organization that focuses on introducing students to the themed entertainment industry and engaging them in activities that involve hands-on educational experiences. We host meetings with speakers from themed entertainment companies, participate in design competitions, go on behind-the-scenes tours of theme parks, escape rooms, and more! Our goal is to support students from all majors explore options within the themed entertainment industry and discover atypical career options within their degrees.
We are open to all majors and engage students in everything from art and design to engineering!

$15 allows us to buy a small prop for the Haunt! With this donation, your name will be added to our donor thank you wall at the end of the haunted house.
$50 allows us to invest in night vision cameras we can use to monitor the haunted house and future projects! With this donation, you will receive all the benefits of "Happy Haunting" plus a high-quality, well-produced, and edited video walkthrough of the haunt, allowing those who cannot attend the haunt in person to view the haunt, as well as those who do attend the haunt to always be able to revisit the fun and frightful scenes they saw!
$100 allows us to outfit our sound system for the haunted house! With this donation, you will have access to all of the perks of "Ghoulish Greetings" as well as behind-the-scenes content. These pictures and videos will give you insight into our team's design and fabrication processes!
Since 2017, excluding the year 2020 due to the pandemic, Texas Theme Park and Design has put on a haunted house making this year the 5th haunt! With this donation, you will receive all the benefits of "Chilling Compliments" and we will add your likeness to a portrait wall in the haunt!
$2000 allows us to purchase themed elements to outfit the haunted house as well as invest in materials to use in future projects! With this donation, you receive all the benefits of "5th Haunt Celebration" as well as handwritten thank you notes from our officer team, as well as backstage access during our operation!
