Thank you so much for your donation. We hope you stay in touch and see all the fun things we do at camp over Summer 2023. Since we have 4 different camps (Austin, Houston and San Antonio). We will have a lot of updates and we can't wait to show you how much we are learning. Thank you!!
The Longhorn Engineering Summer Camp (LESC) is a free, five-day day camp that will engage rising 8th and 9th graders in interactive learning experiences that promote the wide impact of engineering.
WHO ARE WE:
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion office for the Cockrell School of Engineering is committed to increase the participation of students who identify with groups that have been historically excluded from engineering.
OUR PROJECT:
Each day, camp attendees will learn a few engineering fundamentals through an engaging presentation by UT faculty and students, then see these concepts come to life through guided hands-on activities. We hope to reach 200 kids this year in a 4 week period. We hope to lead them on the right path to make sure participants take the right high school courses to be prepared for joining an engineering program their freshman year of college. The goal is to show students that engineering is an option for all.
Why Donate?:
We are excited to host a FREE camp for families who may be unable to afford camp for their students. Your donation will go to needs we have such as materials for activities, transportation to camp in Houston, travel for our counselors and staff to other cities like Houston and San Antonio, compensation for counselors and staff, lunch daily and snacks, etc.. We would love to continue to offer this camp as free to reach more students every year.
