Who We Are
Texas Taekwondo is the WT or Kukkiwon Taekwondo club at the University of Texas at Austin. We practice the traditional Korean martial art of Taekwondo, which directly translates to “the way of kicking and punching.” We incorporate this core concept, whether it be in our patterned forms in Poomsae, or Olympic-style sparring, otherwise known as Kyorugi. From beginners to USA national team members, our club supports the journey of any individual seeking to engage in Taekwondo. Texas Taekwondo strives to create a community that provides both a healthy and competitive environment that focuses on the growth of both the team and the individual.
Our Story
From our humble establishment in 1997, Texas Taekwondo has grown to over 200 members, making it the largest martial arts club at the University of Texas. With nationally renowned coaching staff, our program has allowed athletes to compete at state, national, and international stages, bringing home three consecutive national collegiate titles. As we continue to grow, we train hard to defend our title and bring UT its fourth national collegiate title.
How You Can Help
Your contributions are what allows our program to run. Your donation will assist in repairing and purchasing training equipment, provide training opportunities for our athletes, and most importantly, send as many athletes to the National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships as possible, subsidizing travel costs and tournament fees. The yellow belt represents gold, meaning truth. It is important that an individual be truthful to themselves, as it eliminates conceitedness and introduces personal contentment.
The green belt represents growth. Growth is normally associated with changes that we must accept even if they may cause feelings of insecurity. Growth is essential for living. Donating this amount or higher will put your name on our website where you will be honored on our donor wall!
The blue belt represents the sky or the ocean. The color blue depicts the mental depth or maturity of an individual. We cannot see how deep the sea or how vast the sky is, but that does not mean that's all there is.
The red belt represents the sun's brightness and the physical acts of the individual. It is only through physical activity that an individual is given identity through their mental depth and capabilities.
The black belt combines all of the belt colors and thus represents all of the various concepts of each belt color. It represents the commitment to the value system of the colors and the dignity that comes from pride in oneself.
