Black Lens is a student organization for Black creatives across many disciplines. We strive to create a space for networking, creative expression, and learning. With the revival of the organization, we wanted to serve our members in the best way possible, and one of the ways we can do that is by giving members the opportunity to create a short film from the ground up. On set experience as well as experience in writing, producing, and post-production is incredibly important for an emerging filmmaker. This project is giving many lower-division students these opportunities well before they will get them in their classes. This Black Lens project welcomes all majors and all levels of experience and skill so that students can have the freedom to experiment and learn. This project is truly student-led so that members have the opportunity to express themselves through their craft. Our members are eager and excited about this project and are already starting to create something great! Currently, they are in the writing process and filming will begin in January.
Producing and making our own short film will be no small feat. There is a lot of dedication, preparation, and funding that goes into making a film. As a new organization, we are beginning to build our network of support and secure funding for our initiatives. Though we are new, we have big goals. Your generosity would not only help get this project off the ground but would positively impact each participant of the project in invaluable ways.
PAs are entry-level positions on a film. But don't be fooled, they are integral to the team. Make a PA level donation of $25 and just like real life PAs, your help will be felt and appreciated.
Congratulations you've moved up the ranks! Script supervisors manage the continuity of what is being shot and take down notes from the director to eventually pass on to the editors. A step up from your PA position, make a $50 donation to be like a script supervisor (and tell mom you made it!)
AD's run the show. They handle a lot of responsibility on set while the director works with the talent. Donate $100 to make an assistant director level donation!
Directors are creatively helming the entire project. They are responsible for a lot of moving parts and departments. Donate $1,000 for a Director level donation!
Executive Producers maybe don't get as much spotlight as the lead actors or director, but behind the scenes, they are making the film happen. By donating an Executive Producer level donation, you too will be incredibly contributing to the success of our film!
