Fundraising to Lower Texas PRSSA Membership Dues

PRSSA's Mission

"To provide exceptional service to our members by enhancing their education, broadening their professional network and helping launch their careers after graduation."

About Texas PRSSA

Texas Public Relations Student Society of America – Dr. Alan Scott Chapter, formed in 1968, is one of the largest chapters in the nation located in the heart of a thriving city. As one of the founding chapters, our focus is to provide an out-of-the-classroom experience that gives students, regardless of their major, an enhanced knowledge of the public relations field. Our focus on professional development and engagement is centered on the success of our members.

Besides being a part of the foremost organization for students interested in public relations and communications, members will also experience many great opportunities, resources and benefits.

Through the vast amount of opportunities offered by PRSSA, many of our members have interned at reputable companies and world-class agencies such as Whole Foods, SXSW, Warner Bros., Paramount Studios, Coca-Cola, Fleishman Hillard, Cohn & Wolfe, Weber Shadwick and Edelman.

We Want to Ease the Financial Burden on Students

Many incoming students at the Moody College of Communication face financial burdens when entering college, such as tuition, rent, car payments, books and more. However, we do not want Texas PRSSA's membership fee to be an additional financial burden for students that prevents them from growing as professionals during these pivotal four years in their lives. We believe that students who are eager enough to jumpstart their public relations careers by joining PRSSA should be able to do so without fear of a cost barrier. While we currently offer a small number of full scholarships to multiple applicants per semester, we would like to ease the financial burden for all members, not just a select few.

How Will my Donation Make an Impact?

Our yearly membership dues are $80 which we know can be a significant hardship for many students. Because we are just one chapter under a larger national organization, $55 of our chapter dues are sent to the national Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). This only leaves Texas PRSSA $25 from each member to purchase catered food for each bi-weekly meeting, plan networking events and other socials and provide essential resources for members like headshots, t-shirts and other miscellaneous supplies. In the fall of 2022, we experienced exponential growth in our organization, growing our membership by 200%. Unfortunately, this growth means increased expenses, so lowering dues is not an option without offsetting the costs in a different way. So, with the help from donors like YOU we can reach our goal of raising $1,500 and lower the 2023-24 dues by $10 for each of our 136 members. By investing in the next generation of public relations professionals and sharing our mission, you're helping create a brighter future for our members.

As The University of Texas likes to say, "What starts here changes the world", so help us change the world!
