NABA National Convention 2023

Background

The National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) was founded in 1969 by nine African-American financial leaders after discovering the significantly low number of Black Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in the United States. The goal was to establish an organization to address the concerns of Black professionals entering the accounting field and make a commitment to professional and academic excellence. Its motto is “Lifting as We Climb.” In 1990, the University of Texas at Austin student NABA chapter was created. Unfortunately, it diminished in 2017. Current UT NABA Co-Presidents, De’Ajanae Lockridge and Brooke Davis, connected at a regional NABA luncheon in Spring 2022. They spent their summer working to reestablish the student chapter. After months of diligence, UT NABA was reestablished in Fall 2022 in hopes of reinforcing a community for BIPOC business students. 

What We Do

UT NABA hosts biweekly meetings in which we aim to share internship/job opportunities, build relationships among our members, and provide a safe space for BIPOC business students. We typically have one company visit us every month. Other meetings consist of social activities such as team building and game nights.

Our Goal

The NABA 2023 National Convention & EXPO takes place June 6-9, 2023 in New Orleans! This year’s theme is elevate. It will be four days of relationship building, gaining insight from top industry leaders, and empowerment of Black Business Leaders. We are hoping to raise money to cover registration, food, travel, and lodging costs for at least four members of our student chapter. This opportunity would greatly assist us in member retention as well as motivation.
