Help the UT iGEM Team Go to the Paris Jamboree!

What is iGEM?

iGEM is the preeminent international synthetic biology competition that challenges students to use genetic engineering to solve real-world problems. For over 10 years, UT Austin’s iGEM team has allowed a diverse group of students from various majors to develop and apply innovative synthetic biology research to solve local problems. Each year, students from around the world come together to present their research and network with peers at the iGEM Grand Jamboree! This includes teams from major research universities like Harvard, Yale, MIT, Stanford, Duke, and many many more.

In 2022, the UT Austin iGEM team placed within the top 10 of all undergraduate teams, the only team from the USA to earn that distinction, for our work developing a biosensor for White Nose Syndrome, a disease attacking Austin’s local bat population. Unfortunately, last year's team was also one of only two top 10 teams unable to present in person due to a lack of funding. Our team also brought home the trophy for Best Foundational Advance Project, meaning that we developed a new tool that could be a valuable asset to other synthetic biologists.

Paris World Jamboree

We're raising money to send at least 3-4 of our students to Paris to compete and present at the 2023 iGEM World Jamboree. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students where they can develop essential presentation and scientific communication skills while representing UT Austin on an international stage! Funds will be used to cover the cost of students’ travel, lodging, and other associated fees. Your donation will ensure that our students can proudly represent UT Austin in person while engaging with the international research community and sharing the research we’ve developed over the course of a year.
