Our Crowdfunding Groups
The Travesty, UT’s official humor publication, has been voted "Best Non-Chronicle Publication" by the Austin Chronicle seven times and nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Independent Spirit Awards every year since the paper’s founding in 1997.
Since 2000, we have won The Austin Chronicle’s Best Local Publication Award on seven different occasions, conducted interviews with comedians such as Demetri Martin and Hannibal Buress, produced a UT student body president and vice president, and produced six issues of high-quality comedy a year.
We continually push what can be printed in a newspaper, and so far have figured out how to print in black and white. We hope to figure out color soon. Help us keep campus laughing.
What We’re Fundraising For
We are looking to raise money to help our staff continue to produce 3 issues of our newspaper a semester and additionally produce topical, humorous content (including video content) to put on our website.
Past donations have allowed our video staff to buy equipment so that they can make videos with higher production value. This year, we have been expanding our design and video efforts with the goal of cohesive issues. We believe money would best be served towards video equipment, particularly a small, inexpensive digital camera and a boom microphone.
Your Impact
We are a group of about 20 students — the Travesty has given all of us a place to develop our satire writing skills, something we couldn't do anywhere else. Donating will help us come up with new and innovative ways to reach our audience. Most importantly, the Travesty keeps the UT community laughing through the dark times that we live in.
