Who We Are?

The University of Texas Men's Lacrosse program was established in 1973 by Denny Bahm, Don Carnes, Bob Daigh and Kelly Anderson, who had a passion for the sport and a desire to continue playing it in college. The first game was played against Texas A&M in 1974, and since then the team has competed in every season. 

This year, the team is made up of 50 student-athletes who have a deep love for the game of lacrosse and for representing the great University of Texas. We are not an NCAA sanctioned program, but play in the MCLA Division 1 League which is comprised of the best club teams from around the country. Being a club sport means that we do not get funding from the university and while we have elite coaches, the rest of the program is run by the players, who are in charge of travel, schedule, gear, social events, and budgeting. We have a special team coming into the 2023-2024 season with nearly the whole team returning and the addition of several D1 transfers and freshmen talent. This season will also mark 50 years of Texas lacrosse, only adding to the excitement for the 2024 season. 

As the sport of lacrosse continues to grow in popularity, the University of Texas Men's lacrosse program will continue to attract top talent and draw support from fans and boosters. With a dedicated coaching staff and talented players, the Longhorns have the potential to compete at the highest level and achieve great success in 2024 and in the years to come.

How Will Your Contribution Help?

As lacrosse has expanded, the cost of competing as a collegiate club has not decreased. Travel costs, league dues, equipment, team dinners, and coaching costs are almost exclusively funded by player’s dues and accompanying donations. With your continued support of this storied program, we will be able to grow the program at the club level through traveling to play tougher competition from around the country. This exposure to diverse and challenging opponents is instrumental in our journey to raise our national poll rankings. By competing against teams from various regions, we gain invaluable experience, adapt to different playing styles, and ultimately elevate our performance on a national scale. Your contributions directly enable us to participate in these competitions, making it possible for us to showcase the strength of University of Texas Lacrosse on a broader stage. Your support not only empowers our current players but also paves the way for future generations of Longhorn lacrosse athletes to thrive and continue the legacy of excellence.

As we look back on 50 years of program history, we see that this program would not exist without the generosity of its donors and the support of its alumni. As we look forward into the future, with national success on the horizon we are asking for your continued support to be able to compete at the highest level. As lacrosse has expanded, the cost of competing as a collegiate club has not decreased. Travel costs, league dues, equipment, team dinners, and coaching costs are almost exclusively funded by player’s dues and accompanying donations. As a program, we have enjoyed the ability to participate in nationals when they are extremely close by in round rock, but as nationals move away from Austin, the cost of travel and expanding the program increases rapidly. With your continued support of the storied program, we plan to bring a national trophy home to the University of Texas.
