Black Health Professions Organization

WHO WE ARE

The Black Health Professions Organization works to connect students with resources including networking, shadowing, volunteering, and test prep. Though we are not a social organization, BHPO members benefit from a close-knit group that uplifts one another beyond professional development and engages with the local community to improve health outcomes.

OUR GOAL

We greatly finance two major events: the RMEC Conference in the fall and the AMEC Conference in the spring. The Regional Medical Education Conference (RMEC) is a two-day immersive experience, for underrepresented minority pre-health students across the nation to provide academic enrichment, clinical experience, and leadership development to all attendees. The Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC) is the largest gathering of underrepresented minority medical and premedical students across the United States and the Caribbean, giving attendees several days of similarly innovative programming geared at preparing the next generation of physicians for successful careers in medicine. Funding for these events would aid in making our goals a reality, not just for our members, but for other pre-health students who depend on events of this nature to make connections and create networks with established healthcare professionals.

YOUR IMPACT

Helping fund BHPO allows us to continue providing healthcare opportunities to pre-health minorities, bridging representation disparities amongst healthcare professions. Gifts from prospective donors would significantly aid the progress of our organization and the lives of the pre-health undergraduates that make up our membership base. Since this org is a service org dedicated to pre-health activities, we prioritize providing our members with opportunities that would enhance their well-roundedness for professional schools (i.e. medical, dental, pharmacy, PT, PA school, etc). Access to opportunities like RMEC and AMEC provide important pre-health opportunities for black students at UT. By helping fund travel costs for these events, BHPO can continue to foster an environment that supports minority undergraduates in their efforts to enter healthcare-related professional schools.
