Who We Are
Texas Launch and Land (TLAL) is a collaboration between Aerospace Senior Design and the Texas Rocket Engineering Lab that brings propulsive landing rocketry to the University of Texas at Austin. We believe that reusable rockets are the next step in advancing space exploration, and this project brings a hands-on experience to prepare students for industry.
TLAL was founded by a now-graduated class of senior design students, who are now working in industry, at firms such as SpaceX and Relativity Space or pursuing a higher education at The University of Texas at Austin. Currently, TLAL is managed by three students, with experience from industry leading firms to academia. The team will grow in coming semesters to enable a larger, more diverse group of students to tackle the challenges of propulsive landing vehicle development.
What We’re Fundraising For
All donated funds will go towards hardware for the development of a vertical takeoff and landing (VTVL) rocket, CERMIT. CERMIT will participate in the Collegiate Propulsive Lander Challenge, a new collegiate rocketry challenge that provides cash rewards for teams whose rockets achieve milestones such as a throttled hotfire, demonstration of thrust vector control, a hover test, a drop landing, and a full hop. CERMIT is currently baselined as a 550-lbf liquid bi-propellant rocket that is being designed to fly to an altitude of 50m, then land itself within 10m of its target. The project is projected to take 3-4 years.
How You Can Help
Your donation gives students the opportunity to gain design, manufacturing, testing, and project management experience that is directly applicable to industry leaders such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, Relativity, and STOKE. Donations will fund real engines, test stands, and component development that will allow us to take a hardware-heavy, hands-on approach to this learning. This is a unique opportunity for you to become an early investor in our team as we develop the next generation of aerospace professionals.
Donate today and help Texas Launch and Land bring propulsive landing to UT!
2023 is when the challenge kicked off!!! With this donation, we'll be able to purchase various nuts and bolts for the rocket!
Help us emphasize safety for the 50 safety requirements of our project! With this donation we'll be able to purchase necessary safety gear for testing!
Get a handwritten thank you update from the team with a limited edition CERMIT sticker for our 100kg rocket! With this donation we'll be able to buy tubing, hoses, and fuel for the rocket!
Get your name engraved into the inside of the rocket for the 550 lbf of thrust from our engine! With this donation we'll be able to buy sensors, actuators, and materials for the rocket!
Make your mark with the 3372 lbf impact landing force! With this donation you’ll get to launch your own payload, and mark your name into the test stand, option for the first 4 donors. With this donation we'll finish funding for our test stand, or have enough funds to start building the structure of the rocket!
