YOUR IMPACT FOR OUR STUDENTS
The Simulation and Skills Center (SSC) at the UT Austin School of Nursing educates students in the art and science of nursing – the critical interpersonal and hands-on skills necessary to effectively produce positive patient outcomes. Your gift during this HornRaiser will help us to reduce the out-of-pocket cost for undergraduate and graduate student's clinical lab packs so they can focus on what matters most – providing their patients with the most effective health care.
UT Nursing students travel to Del Valle High School for pediatric simulation. The SSC provides the skills, equipment & supplies for this community outreach activity where our undergraduate nursing students practice their clinical skills.
WHO ARE WE?
The Simulation and Skills Center (SSC) is a state-of-the-art nursing education facility incorporating simulated yet realistic learning experiences into our curriculum. Located on the fourth floor of the Nursing building, the SSC provides an environment for students to practice and demonstrate nursing skills.
WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE?
Throughout the semester, nursing students are exposed to multiple aspects of patient care, allowing them to practice clinical skills. This creates a safe environment for students to master the skills they need to change the world.
Some examples of activities that require a clinical skills supply lab pack are:
WHY PROVIDE SIMULATION TRAINING?
Simulation and Skills education improves the quality and safety of nurse-patient care. By providing the opportunity for real-world experiences, the Simulation and Skills Center (SSC) takes pride in ensuring that our students develop the exceptional skills, knowledge, and personality that our community has come to expect from Texas Nurses.

The Simulation Lab is used to practice clinical performance in a realistic clinical setting. The simulation lab is equipped with six hospital rooms and equipment. Nursing education at the School of Nursing includes using standardized patients, human patient simulators, and task trainers to enhance student learning in a realistic simulated clinical setting.
The Skills Lab is used for nursing skill development in an environment similar to the hospital. Our skills rooms are equipped with hospital beds, medication dispensing machines, over-bed tables, IV poles, simulated oxygen and suction, bedside charting stations, and other hospital-related equipment. The lab allows students to develop the skills to perform clinical nursing procedures for patients.
The Assessment Lab provides a classroom with nine exam tables primarily used for advanced assessment procedures, orientations, and simulations.
Our Virtual Reality Simulations offer several real-life hospital scenarios where students can practice their skills before clinicals.UT Nursing Students Participation in Hospital Day Simulation
