University of Texas Weightlifting - Road to University Nationals

Join us in supporting the team as they aim to compete for a national title at the 2024 University National Championships this coming spring! Help us raise the funds needed to send the team to Columbus, OH to represent our university with strength and pride!

Who We Are

The University of Texas Weightlifting Team was formed in 2016 as a collection of students who shared an interest in the Olympic sport of weightlifting and has since developed into a nationally competitive team! The team has grown each year from its three original members in 2016 to over 30 active members in 2023! The UT Weightlifting Team has increased its national team contingent each of the last seven years and has produced multiple medalists in the last four years at the Junior National Championships, University National Championships, and Under 25 National Championships. The team has also collected eight national team trophies in the past few years, including Men's and Women's national titles at the 2021, 2022, and 2023 U25 National Championships.

The team is officially sponsored by the Department of Recreational Sports and coached by former UT exercise science majors utilizing evidence-based, research-backed practices learned as students in the Kinesiology Department. The team is comprised of students from all areas of the university, including engineering, business, nursing, kinesiology, mathematics, biology, philosophy, and computer science.

What We Are Fundraising For

The money raised through this crowdfunding campaign will address the immediate needs of the program consisting of travel to competitions, lodging, and entry fees.

While the sport of weightlifting is an original Olympic event, it is not currently an NCAA sport. As there is no presence in the NCAA, funding from major universities is scarce. The students of the University of Texas Weightlifting Team have been working to create a program that provides student-athletes in weightlifting with athletic opportunities on par with contemporary collegiate athletic standards.

Your Impact

Your generous donations have been directly responsible for the team's ability to travel to Nationals to compete against their peers and showcase the fruits of their training. Your past support has been essential to the growth and success of our team and your continued support is vital to our future success! Thank you for your generosity and belief in UT Weightlifting!
