What Is Texas Taekwondo?
Texas Taekwondo is the largest RecSports and martial arts club at the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in WT or Kukkiwon Taekwondo. The club centers around the Korean martial art of Taekwondo, directly translating to "the way of kicking and punching." This translation is the core concept of our club, represented in two distinct disciplines. These are Poomsae, a set of practiced patterned forms representing the art that is Taekwondo in its entirety, and Olympic-style sparring, also known as Kyorugi.
With a range of members, from complete beginners to USA national team members, the club prides itself on supporting the individual journeys of all members, regardless of their experience. As such, Texas Taekwondo places a heavy emphasis on community and fostering an inclusive environment, that promotes the growth of all members to their highest potential, while also bringing the club to further heights.
Our Origin!
Originating in 1997, Texas Taekwondo's growth has been nothing short of exemplary standing at over 250 members, the club is now the largest Recsports and martial arts club at the University of Texas at Austin, a far cry from its once humble beginnings.
Owing to our nationally renowned coaching staff, our collegiate program has allowed our athletes to compete at state, national, and international stages, with performances that can only be described as excellent.
Texas Taekwondo has brought home 4 consecutive national championships, with more inevitably on the horizon, symbolizing the excellence of the club.
How You Can Help Us!
As we continue to expand, so do our costs. Your contributions are the sole reason we can operate at the level that we do, bringing honor and glory to UT. Donations will aid us in covering the cost of purchasing training equipment, gear for our athletes, providing our athletes with valuable training opportunities to promote their growth and the most important of all, allowing us to send as many athletes as we can to the National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships, held each spring. Your donations will help subsidize travel, hotel, and tournament costs that will undoubtedly allow us to compete at the highest level.

The yellow belt represents gold, meaning truth. It is important that an individual be truthful to themselves, as it eliminates conceitedness and introduces personal contentment. Truth and integrity are vital to a fulfilling existence.
The green belt represents growth. Growth is normally associated with changes that we must accept even if they may cause feelings of insecurity. Growth is essential for living. Donating this amount or higher will put your name on our website where you will be honored on our donor wall!
The blue belt represents the sky or the ocean. The color blue depicts the mental depth or maturity of an individual. We cannot see how deep the sea or how vast the sky is, but that does not mean that's all there is.
The red belt represents the sun's brightness and the physical acts of the individual. It is only through physical activity that an individual is given identity through their mental depth and capabilities.
The black belt combines all of the belt colors and thus represents all of the various concepts of each belt color. It represents the commitment to the value system of the colors and the dignity that comes from pride in oneself.
