Thank you so much for your contribution! Your act of kindness will allow us to perform better at our Annual Symposium and Design Competition. We guarantee that we will make you and the rest of UT proud!
If you are interested in learning more about our competition or would like to get more involved, please contact Sumedh Thopte at sumedhthopte@utexas.edu. Thank you again for your support!
WHO ARE WE?
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) UT Chapter is a student-led organization dedicated to developing the professional and technical skills of the future's civil engineers. We hold informal meetings and talks with companies, professors, and alumni so that our members can learn more about the civil engineering industry and explore potential career paths. We also provide mentoring to underclassmen to better guide them and organize socials to have fun and relax.
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
We are fundraising to support our members in succeeding in the Annual ASCE Design Competition and Symposium. In this event, we compete in a variety of events that test our skills in using concrete to make a canoe, bowling ball, and frisbee as well as designing a bridge made completely out of steel. It is a competition that challenges us to develop and apply the skills we learned in the classroom to a competition where we can represent UT.
WHAT IMPACT DOES THIS PROJECT HAVE?
Each year, UT Austin has placed in the top 5 of the 20+ competing universities at the symposium. However, we know that we can do better and place higher in the rankings. That is why we are participating in a new competition: Timber Strong; a challenge to make a two-story wooden structure with pre-made parts. We also want to improve our performance in Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge competitions which are two other challenges that require extensive preparation and resources. This fundraiser will help us:
This will allow our members to have a better experience preparing and competing because we can dedicate more resources to creating better projects and training our members. Your contribution to our organization will help UT students develop their skills, have more fun in college, and feel proud of themselves. Thank you so much for helping ASCE!
Welcome to the field that makes the infrastructure of our society. We are responsible for creating the great cities of today. We create different ways to save energy, create new and exciting structures, and propel our world to tomorrow
An internship is the most useful experience a civil engineering student can get. It allows them to explore the industry and see what interests them. It is a learning experience while you get paid!
An engineer in training (EIT) is a civil engineer who has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and is ready to take on more responsibilities. The next few years will be spent in learning and gaining experience as they work towards becoming a licensed professional
One of the biggest milestones in a civil engineer's career. Now the civil engineer can sign off on projects, lead projects, take on more responsibility, and chase after potential projects. But it also means they take on more risk, after all: with great power comes great responsibility
By the time a civil engineer retires, they have given countless contributions to society. Civil engineers dedicate their careers to serving the public and finding ways to better the lives of our community. Their efforts allow us to enjoy life and inspire us to work towards making a better future.
