As the Austin music scene becomes increasingly more lively following the pandemic, KVRX is no exception! With 5 departments, 33 staff members, and over 120 active DJ’s contributing to our 24/7 programming, KVRX has grown in many ways. Throughout it all, our completely student-run radio station maintains our identity as like-minded individuals who believe in the power of music, radio, and, above all else, community.
KVRX has been around for... a while. Before we changed our call letter in 1994, we were known as KTSB. And even before that, the Student Radio Task Force valiantly advocated for years for a completely student-run radio station on the University of Texas campus. Today, we still strive to honor the legacy of our founders and upheld the KVRX tenets that have been honed through the years. We could not be prouder to serve as one of the country's only fully student-run college stations!
As a student organization, we are constantly needing as much support from our generous listeners, alumni, families, and friends as possible. Firstly, our radio booth needs significant upgrades such as microphone repairs, monitoring headphones, and playback devices such as turntables, CD players, and cassette players which would allow more accessibility to our DJ’s and improve overall listening quality. Additionally, our station works with over 150 local and national artists every semester by hosting Local Live, In-studio sessions, interviews, and covering concerts. Our production department seeks lighting, sound, and film equipment that will increase our opportunities to operate at a professional level, as well as give more opportunities to prospective students that seek crucial career and technical training.
We need your support to continue our mission to foster and inspire the next generation of college radio and the Austin music community!
Okay, now you're pretty well known around Austin. Hopefully you can score a spot on Local Live!
Silly time is over. Now you're booking your own gigs and opening for touring bands.
You're buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator and are throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real.
I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables.
