Support for Students
While traditional graduate students receive robust support through dedicated resources and mentorship, the same level of backing is not as readily available for EER students. Supporting the EER program at UT Austin is crucial for nurturing future leaders in sustainable resource management. The program’s broad curriculum prepares graduates to confront pressing challenges in energy, water, and environmental systems. The 2024-2025 Academic Year has approximately 58 students in total. Supporting a year’s worth of education in the EER program costs roughly $300,000. Only 10% of incoming students have their own funding, primarily through corporate or nationally sponsored scholarships. This means the vast majority rely on additional support to pursue their dreams and contribute to groundbreaking research. With your support, we can help close the funding gap to continue to recruit top tier prospective students and ensure they can thrive and maximize their educational experience.
By making a gift to support these critical fellowships, you invest in the next generation of leaders ready to make a global impact in energy and resource management.
About the Program
The Master’s Degree in Energy and Earth Resources (EER Graduate Program) offers a unique chance for students to study various fields, including geosciences, engineering, management, finance, law, and policy. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to customize their education to fit their career aspirations in areas like business, resource management, and strategic planning.
Many students come with professional experience, helping them clarify their goals and fully benefit from the program. Graduates are equipped to address challenges in energy economics, risk analysis, policy development, and environmental issues, making them valuable in industries worldwide, from Brazil to Saudi Arabia.
The course of study is both multidisciplinary and flexible. Graduates may concentrate their interests in fields such as energy economics, decision and risk analysis, policy and regulatory frameworks, strategic planning or technical issues involving the environment, water, oil and gas production and renewable energy. The exceptional EER student body and the global nature of the related industries result in graduates launching their careers all over the world.
History has shown that we have an almost insatiable demand for energy and earth resources, including minerals and water as they are fundamental to the basic needs and growing prosperity of the global population. “Revolutionary,” “exponential,” and “unprecedented “are apt descriptions of the pace of change in the energy and earth resources arena. ~ Dr. Fred Beach, Director of the EER Program
For over 30 years, EER graduates have found success in multinational corporations, government agencies, and research institutes, working with organizations like Chevron, Shell, and the World Bank.
Location is also critical to students's success; EER students benefit from access to professional events and networking opportunities throughout Texas, guided by esteemed faculty.
