Who We Are
Musical Memories is a program sponsored by the College of Natural Science that aims to bring the joy and healing power of music to the people working and training across UT-Austin and in particular at Dell Seton Ascension Hospital.
Our Mission
Musical Memories consists of a concert series and the Red River Ensemble Orchestra.
The Musical Memories concert series consists of performances from world renowned musicians that are held in both the Norman Hackerman Building on UT campus and in the Dell Seton Medical Center. These concerts build community through meaningful musical experiences. In addition, the performances in the hospital offer a break from the stress of the medical environment for patients, their families and staff members.
The Red River Ensemble is made up of dozens of faculty and staff from various parts of campus, ranging from scientists that work at the university, to the hospital’s very own doctors. These individuals are accomplished musicians in their personal life, and they volunteer their time to be a part of the ensemble. The Red River Ensemble practices and performs in the Dell Seton Medical Center on Monday nights, providing the hospital with live classical music to patients and staff members.
The Importance Of Your Donations
The healing and soothing power of music, and its importance in the hospital environment cannot be overstated. These performances are an opportunity for patients and their families to come together to engage in a human experience that can’t be found anywhere else.
We firmly believe that cost should not prohibit anyone from experiencing the benefits of these musical performances, and therefore Musical Memories and the Red River Ensemble programs are completely free for all attendees. However, there are significant costs associated with these programs such as fees for professional musicians that are brought in for Musical Memories performances, compensation for the Red River Ensemble director, and musical equipment for the ensemble. Musical Memories does not have a dedicated funding stream and without continued public support, our ability to sponsor Musical Memory concerts and the Red River Ensemble will come to an end. Your gift is essential to sustaining these programs and for the members of the UT Austin and Dell Seton Medical Center to experience the joy and healing power of music.
