Who We Are
The University of Texas Weightlifting Team was formed by three original members in 2016 who shared a love of the sport of Olympic weightlifting. The team has grown to over 30 active members in 2024 and has qualified more and more athletes to national competitions each of the last seven years. In addition to multiple individual medalists, the team as a whole has collected 10 national team trophies in the past few years, including a combined seven Men's and Women's U25 National Titles from 2021 to 2024.
What We're Fundraising For
The money we raise will allow the team to travel to Columbus, OH to represent the University of Texas against elite university competition from across the nation. Funds will cover airfare, lodging, food, and meet entry fees, among other expenses. While the sport of weightlifting is an original Olympic event, it is not currently an NCAA sport; as such, funding from major universities is scarce. The students of the University of Texas Weightlifting Team have been working to create a program that provides student-athletes in weightlifting with athletic opportunities on par with contemporary collegiate athletic standards.
