The Dijkstra Scholars Program is a transformative initiative aimed at fostering success in the field of computer science for students from underprivileged communities. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by these students, the program offers vital financial and academic resources designed to help them thrive in their studies. Consider supporting this important cause! Every gift made before December 6th will be matched dollar for dollar by NJP Ventures up to $25,000!
The Dijkstra Scholars Program provides scholarships of $20,000, which are distributed over four years. This financial support is crucial for students from families with incomes below $60,000—representing 42% of those who struggle to maintain the necessary GPA requirements to continue in the computer science major. By alleviating some of the financial burdens that can detract from academic focus, the program allows students to concentrate on their studies.
In addition to financial aid, the Dijkstra Scholars Program provides specialized academic advising and peer support. This personalized guidance ensures that students not only receive the financial assistance they need but also have access to mentorship and resources tailored to their individual academic journeys. This holistic approach helps to create a supportive community where students can thrive, share experiences, and overcome challenges together.

UTCS program administrator, Claudia L. Treviño, comments on her experience with underserved students.
"At UTCS, we accept high-achieving students from across Texas. However, less than 50% of Texas high schools offer computer science courses, meaning many of our students are first-time programmers. With the dedicated support of our faculty and staff, through rigorous courses, community events, dynamic workshops, and personalized outreach, we ensure that all our students have the tools to excel."
Here at the computer science department, we would love to be able to grow the Dijkstra Scholars Program to provide resources for even more students who are interested in the major.
To do so, we ask that you consider making a gift toward this wonderful initiative. Every gift made before December 6th will be matched dollar for dollar by NJP Ventures up to $25,000!
