Hello! We are Projects with Underserved Communities (PUC) Team Costa Rica! We are seven students that are planning to develop and implement a humanitarian engineering project in partnership with Siempre Amigos in Lorena, Costa Rica. Our team intends to implement an open-air community center that addresses Lorena’s need for a space of economic and community engagement. We aspire to create a mutually beneficial experience where we practice hands-on skills that empowers Lorena’s growth while learning from the world around us.
The Community
Over the course of the next year, we will be working with the community of Lorena Village in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, to support sustainable economic development. We aim to identify Costa Rica’s unique tourist attractions while collaborating with the local initiative, Siempre Amigos. Our focus will be on enhancing community engagement and economic opportunities by promoting local products. By leveraging the region's natural beauty and cultural heritage, we will empower residents to sell their goods to visiting villages tourist, and beyond. This initiative aligns with our mission to uplift communities by creating opportunities and increasing local profitability.
Our project
This will be the fifth year that Projects with Underserved Communities works with Simepre Amigos. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue our partnership and implement a community kiosk. Over the past four years, we have successfully implemented a variety of projects that have significantly enhanced community engagement and improved our operations. Initiatives such as the establishment of a recycling center and the renovation of our soccer field have brought residents together, fostering a stronger sense of community and collaboration. Building on our previous successes, our new project is designed to empower the community by creating economic opportunities for residents to sell their own goods. Together, we can cultivate a vibrant marketplace that showcases the talent and creativity of Lorena Village while contributing to sustainable development in the region.
