Eleven New University Leadership Network Scholarships!

December 31, 2015

University Leadership Network contributions now total $56,935, enough to create 11 new scholarships!

We’re in the last few hours of the University Leadership Network HornRaiser Scholarship Campaign, ending at midnight tonight, December 31, 2015.  Please continue to share the ULN HornRaiser campaign website with others who might wish to make a year-end gift!

Thank you very much for making this campaign a great success.

Happy New Year from the University Leadership Network!

You did it! The University Leadership Network goal is met.

December 11, 2015

The Longhorn community did it!  The $40,000 goal was surpassed. Thirty-one donors contributed a total of $53,210 for University Leadership Network (ULN) scholarships during the HornRaiser campaign. We raised enough for 10+ scholarships.  The Freshman Class entering in Fall 2016 will be the recipients of the scholarships you provided.

Your gifts will reduce the distraction of financial worry, keep students focused on academics, and help them stay on track to graduate in four years.

“We all want these young people to succeed, and by helping them do it in four years, everybody wins. Students who graduate on time assume less debt while getting a jump-start on their careers.  And, the university increases its capacity to educate even more students. Thank you all for joining together to make it easier for these students to complete a college degree.”  David Laude, Senior Vice Provost for Enrollment and Curriculum Services and UT’s Graduation Champion

The ULN HornRaiser website will be active until December 31, 2015, for anyone who wishes to make a gift before year-end. Please continue to share the ULN HornRaiser campaign website with others.  With a little more support, we will raise an 11th scholarship.

Thank you Longhorn community, for your gifts and support, and helping these ULN students feel welcome on the Forty Acres.  We will provide occasional updates to you on the progress of our ULN students.

Leaders in the Classroom, Community and Workplace

November 18, 2015

The University Leadership Network features an internship program with UT Austin Campus Partners that include academic, administration, operational and athletics units across the university.  The program trains students in their first year to be leaders in the classroom, community and workplace.  It prepares them to enter a professional office in their second year, which is their internship year on campus. Students emerge from training understanding the etiquette of a professional environment and enter their internships ready to contribute from day one.  Hear what our Campus Partners are saying about ULN interns in this video.

We have 17 days to raise the remaining $7,090.  Please help us spread the word by sharing this video with others through email, Facebook or Twitter.

Thank you once again for supporting these deserving students!

University Leadership Network Receives National Attention

November 10, 2015

We have made great progress toward our goal to raise scholarships for UT Austin’s nationally known University Leadership Network (ULN) program.  We have raised $30,875 of our $40,000 goal.

ULN was featured this past August on PBS NewsHour in the series “Rethinking College.”  PBS reviewed five programs across the country working to close the graduation gap for low-income students. UT Austin’s program was the first to be featured.  Watch the video here

Thanks to YOU, we are almost to our goal. YOUR gifts directly help ULN students reduce their college costs.  YOUR vote of confidence in these students helps unlock their high potential.  YOU are building the pipeline of Texas’ future leaders.

Please continue to share the University Leadership Network project with your friends in these last 25 days of the campaign.

Students Who Have What It Takes To Be UT Longhorns

October 29, 2015

We are already at 69% of our goal to raise $40,000 for University Leadership Network scholarships. Since our campaign launch, we have raised $27,775.  This funding will provide five annual scholarships and we are well on our way toward funding a sixth scholarship. Thank you!

Every year, many incoming students arrive at UT uncertain that they have made the right college choice. They might be the first in their family to attend college, or come from an under-resourced background.  For these students the transition to college can be overwhelming. In spite of this, these students have what it takes to be Longhorns. They have overcome challenges, and earned their place on the Forty Acres. They have grit! Now they also have a new support system called the University Leadership Network (ULN).

ULN focuses on students who are statistically least likely to do well”, says David Laude, UT Austin’s Senior Vice Provost and Graduation Champion, “yet we make it clear that they have been selected for this program not because we fear they will fail, but because we believe they can succeed.  The philosophy behind ULN is simple:  no matter the background a student brings with them to UT, a positive mindset focused on belonging as a Longhorn, no matter the ups and downs of college life, leads to success.”

We have 37 days to raise the remaining $12,225, so please help us spread the word by sharing the University Leadership Network project with others through email, Facebook or Twitter.

Thank you once again for personally helping to support these deserving students.  We will provide more updates as we move closer to our goal!

Off To A Great Start!

October 23, 2015

Our University Leadership Network (ULN) scholarship campaign for UT Austin is off to a great start.  Thanks for being one of the first contributors to this effort.  We’ve already raised $22,555.

Unique features of ULN are its incentive-based scholarship approach and leadership development.  The scholarship is tied to student participation and performance in the program that builds community, teaches leadership skills, provides internships, and requires the completion of 30 or more credit hours each year – the number needed to stay on track to graduate in four years.

“Being part of ULN and part of the University made me challenge myself.  All around me are students with amazing talents and gifts.  I often put myself down thinking I was not smart enough or good enough, but I came to this university with a goal, and ULN constantly reminded me of what I came to do.  I wanted to be a leader.” – ULN Student

Here are some ways you can increase the impact of the gift you have already made:
