When this illustrated activity book is complete, proceeds from the sales will support student scholarships to attend (and recurring expenses for) Iris Apfel’s world-class UT in NYC seminar and conference. (Step 2. Sell the Book With Proceeds Supporting UT in NYC Expenses.)
What is UT in NYC?
UT in NYC is an innovative, experiential learning program in the School of Human Ecology. This program is offered to junior and senior Textiles and Apparel students in addition to non-majors. UT in NYC is like no other program in the country because it is led by legendary New York City fashion icon and UT visiting professor, Iris Apfel. Professor Apfel and the Textiles and Apparel faculty have designed a one-of-a-kind program to provide our students with extraordinary examples of the industry’s brightest and most successful leaders in the overall fashion world.
Students are invited into boardrooms, workrooms, showrooms and curatorial spaces, where they learn how professor Apfel’s colleagues have built their careers. In the process, the students’ eyes are opened to the many possibilities that await them upon graduation. Inspired by these stories, they learn that with the right combination of passion, hard work and commitment, they too, can make their mark on the industry.
The students get to visit the full spectrum of the fashion industry: production, publishing, licensing, visual merchandising, buying, forecasting, design, sourcing, historical preservation and fashion public relations firms. Stops include: Bergdorf Goodman, The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, HSN, Kate Spade, MAC Cosmetics, Naeem Khan, The New York Times T Magazine, and Phillips Van Heusen to name a few.
