Who We Are:

We are a passionate team of UT Austin engineering and social work students working with a community in Thailand to design and implement a project to improve a basic need in the community. As a group, we bring various skill sets and experiences to the table to ensure success in our project. We hope to implement our knowledge and gain real life experience, all while having a positive impact on the community.

What PUC is:

Projects with Underserved Communities (PUC) is an innovative, year-long program that has sparked collaboration between the Cockrell School of Engineering, the International Office, and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. This program enable us to design, manage, and construct a small infrastructure project abroad with professional guidance.

Our Project:

Over the course of the year, our team will develop a water distribution and sanitation station for the community of Don Kang in Thailand. The goal of this project is to provide over 100 children with a hand washing and a tooth brushing station.

Our team is planning on building a wash trough with multiple faucets at a various heights to account for the elementary school students. The water source provides clean filtered water and will be linked to the faucets through pipes and spigots. We may install a bladder tank to ensure that all the faucets can run at a reasonable water pressure at all times for the children's sanitation needs. In addition, we plan to hire a contractor to roof over the top of the wash trough so that the trough doesn't over flow during monsoon season. Keeping sustainability in mind, the drainage system will provide water to the garden outside of the school. We will encourage the students to use environmentally friendly soap and toothpaste so that it doesn't contaminate the drainage water going to the garden.

We are currently working with UT professors, professional engineers, a non-governmental organization called Church of the New Covenant, and community members in Don Kang, Thailand. After a year of hard work, in May 2018, we will travel to Thailand to bring our idea to fruition!

Be a Part of the Project:

How can you contribute to the project? In order to provide this project at no cost for the community, we need help to fund the cost of materials. Our estimated cost of the project is $15,000. These donations are tax deductible and will impact the lives of the entire community of Don Kang! None of the donations will go towards our personal costs, as we will pay for our own travel and lodging expenses.

Even the smallest donation will help us achieve our goal. You can contribute to our cause by making a donation amount of your choosing or by selecting a Giving Level. Please share this page with your family and friends to help us towards our goal!
