Our project is complete!

July 27, 2018

Hi Donors!

Since we finished up our project in early June, we just wanted to extend another huge THANK YOU! This amazing project would not have been possible with out you. We hope you all were able to keep track of our journey through our blog! We just recently finished the blog with our final post. We go into details about some of the struggles we faced at the end of the project, the final result, and also each team member shared their favorite memory! You can read it here: https://pucguatemala2018.wixsite.com/pucguatemala2018/blog-1/the-finale

We hope that in the future you keep a look out for other Project with Under-served Communities (PUC) projects. This is a great organization and we know that it will continue to do great things. We are so privileged that you, the donors, gave us this opportunity to be a part of PUC. With out the funds, it would not matter how much work we poured into the design or communication with our NGO, the project would not have been able to move forward. Everything that we did was only possible because of you!

Muchas gracias,

PUC Guatemala 2018

Foundation Poured!

May 15, 2018

Hello everyone!

The team is 5 days away from our implementation trip, and we're all excitedly packing our steel toed boots and design drawings. The past semester has been filled with client calls, drafting designs, a recon trip, and drawing revisions. The final drawings are currently being converted to Spanish and metric to aid the contractors. We're so excited to finally bring our design to a reality. In fact, our teaching kitchen's foundation has already been poured (as shown below in the picture)!

On May 20, the team will be setting off to build the rest of the kitchen and wrapping things up by Jun 10. If you would like to follow us on our journey, we'll be updating our Facebook  and our blog throughout implementation. We wouldn't have made it this far without the generous support of our donors. Thank you again for your help!

Regards,

New Year, New Updates

January 21, 2018

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT! We not only reached our goal, we surpassed it by 8%!

With the funding secured and a new year, PUC Guatemala is back and in full-force!  We kicked off semester by volunteering on MLK day at Urban Roots, a community farm that works to empower youth. We thought it would be a great way for our team to get a better understanding of what Garden of Hope / Huerto la Esperanza does in Guatemala! While we were there, we learned to plant onions, celebrate small victories, and made lots of new friends!

This semester we will be working hard to get detailed project drawings. Currently, we're working on the building's wall-sections and interior layouts. Along with design, the logistics team is busy preparing the budget sheet and the itemized list for our kitchen. On the community engagement side, fun activities with the kids are being planned with inspiration from our volunteer day at Urban Roots! This semester will be both exciting and fun as we plan for our trip this summer to Guatemala!

Thanks to all the donors for your contribution! Without your help, this project wouldn't be possible. We will be updating our Hornraiser and Facebook with our progress, so stay posted!

We Are 75% Fundraised! Almost There!

November 17, 2017

This exciting news comes as our team dives into the nitty-gritty technical design of the outdoor teaching kitchen. We have begun designing the floor plan and foundation, taking into account various environmental factors such as earthquakes and soil quality. Also, since this kitchen will be a tool for teachers to instruct students how to cook, we want to keep the structure as open as possible for easy viewing. Our third major priority is building and roof orientation to ensure natural airflow and cooling without the use of an HVAC system. We are excited about our technical as well as fundraising progress!

On a personal note, our team has planned a day of local community service at Urban Roots in Austin, TX! Urban Roots is a community garden and youth development program with similar goals as the Garden of Hope, PUC’s community partner in Jocotenango, Guatemala. Through volunteering together, we’ll develop our teamwork outside of the classroom and have a great time helping the community!

THANK YOU to all of our donors who are making this project possible! Your contribution is allowing us to turn our project into a reality, helping the Garden of Hope achieve its mission of supporting the youth of Jocotenango, Guatemala!

PUC- Guatemala is 50% Fundraised!

November 06, 2017

Today marks an important day for PUC Guatemala’s project-- thanks to our generous donors, we have raised $7,518, over half of our goal in just a week! We’re on the road to our $15,000 goal to build an outdoor teaching kitchen for the Garden of Hope in Jocotenango, Guatemala. Garden of Hope’s main goal is to combat malnutrition in Guatemala, and through this teaching kitchen they will be a step closer to accomplishing it. This kitchen will educate the children who frequent the Garden of Hope about the importance of nutrition and help them create healthy eating habits.

So, from Team Guatemala, a huge ‘THANK YOU!’ for taking the time to visit our site, read about our mission, and contribute to our cause! We appreciate you all so much and none of this would be possible without your generosity.
