Preparing students for STEM degrees
College courses in calculus and chemistry often serve as gateways for students who dream of earning STEM degrees. Unfortunately, students commonly struggle to pass these courses and subsequently forego their initial ambitions.
Here at GeoFORCE, we’re ready to turn this trend around.
Join us in empowering GeoFORCE students who are entering their freshman year of college by preparing them for calculus and chemistry with a one-week residential Math and Science Institute at UT Austin this summer.
Twenty GeoFORCE student scholars will be challenged by classroom sessions in math (algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus) and chemistry that will be supplemented by breakout sessions led by graduate student teaching assistants and undergraduate peer learning assistants (PLAs). Students will also practice honing their study skills and begin to experience college norms, such as writing professional emails and attending office hours.

We are raising money to provide this experience to students at no cost. This includes providing lodging and meals for our scholars, compensating instructors, TAs and PLAs, and covering the cost of materials. Your donation will pay for a day of room and board for one student scholar. We will thank you a with a special shout out on social media.
Your donation will help to pay the salary of an undergraduate peer learning assistant (PLA). Peer instruction and mentorship can improve student success in transitioning to college. We will thank you with a special shout out on social media and plot the equation of a line in your honor.
Your donation will help provide transportation to and from UT Austin for GeoFORCE scholars. We will send you a shout out on social media, balance a chemical reaction in your honor and send you a signed group photo of students at the Institute.
Your donation will help fund the salary for a graduate teaching assistant for the Institute. You will receive a social media shout out and a classic GeoFORCE t-shirt signed by the student scholars.
Your donation will cover a portion of the instructor fee. We are partnering with UT faculty experts in chemistry and math education to prepare our scholars for college. You will receive a classic GeoFORCE t-shirt signed by the students and a thank you video message.
Your donation will cover the cost of room and board for all 20 scholars at the Institute. We will shout your name from the UT Tower, and you will be invited to visit the students at the Institute and join us on an outing in Austin.
