We are Projects with Underserved Communities (PUC): Team India 2022-2023! We are a multidisciplinary team of 6 driven undergraduate students from the Cockrell School of Engineering and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Our goal is to design and build a multipurpose community center in Adukkam in the Tamil Nadu region of India. By implementing this project, we hope to improve the quality of life and expand educational opportunities for the people in this community.

In the summer of 2023, our team will travel to the Indian region of Tamil Nadu to build a multipurpose community center with the help of CASA! Since educational resources are scarce in rural areas, many members of this small village lack access to resources for learning.

We hope that this community center will enable economic empowerment through books, computers, and even instructional courses taught by local teachers and universities. This facility will also serve as a starting place for additional resources like roads and government funding to be channeled into this region, directly impacting multiple generations to come. It will provide a central space for people to gather and grow.
Our Partner:
We have partnered with the Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA) to enhance the livelihood of the local community. CASA has been working to promote education, gender equality, and sustainable livelihoods across India for over 75 years. With programs in around 15 states in India, they strive to mobilize people to tackle issues plaguing underrepresented communities such as food insecurity, disease outbreaks, child labor, limited educational opportunities, and resource-based conflict. We are very excited to be working with CASA on this project!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We have committed to raising at least $15,000 to implement and construct the community center for the people in Tamil Nadu. Your support will go to the materials needed to build the concrete structure and install tables and shelving. All materials will be purchased in the country, supporting local suppliers and in turn the local economy. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support our project. Any amount helps make this project a reality, and your donation can change the lives of many. Our group's goal is to change the world, one project at a time. Please donate today!
