We need your help!

We have pledged to help Ban Huai Yang Elementary School by raising $15,000 and developing and implementing a sustainable solution to the existing water issue. 100% of all proceeds will directly fund project expenses. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to our project to help make clean water accessible to this community. Throughout the course of our project, we will keep you updated through HornRaiser and social media so you can see how your donation is helping us and the students of Ban Huai Yang. A small gift can go a long way, so please donate today! If you can't make a donation at this point, help us reach our goal by sharing this page on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media. Or, even better, send an email to friends or family you think might be interested in contributing and include a link to our page! We appreciate all your help and generosity; it means everything to us!

Meet the Team:

We are a team of seven students participating in the Projects with Underserved Communities (PUC), a unique humanitarian program in which engineering and social work students partner with NGOs in developing countries to design and implement a project that will make a positive impact in an underserved community. This year, our team will be working with the members of The New Life Church to develop and implement a water filtration and water distribution project at Ban Huai Yang Elementary School in Thailand.

Our Cause: Access to Clean Water!

Access to clean water in Thailand has become increasingly difficult due to the country’s rapid population and industrial growth. The government often struggles to deliver clean drinking water to many rural areas, and the school we are working with is one of the affected communities. Ban Huai Yang elementary school gets city water delivered in government trucks. When the water arrives, it is visibly dirty due to contamination which seems to happen during transportation. The water is then stored in the large outdoor tanks, and the school draws its water directly from the those tanks. Today, there is no water filtration or treatment in place. This poses a serious health hazard and may expose students and teachers to harmful bacteria. In addition, there is no water distribution system which makes it very inconvenient for students to use the water.

Our Project:

In May 2019, our team will travel to Ban Huai Yang Elementary School in the Kanchanaburi province to build a water filtration system,12 sinks, as well as 2 spigots to give students access to clean drinking water. Through this project, we will be serving 150 students and teachers at the elementary school. Our mission is to ensure that the community has the basic right to clean water. The water filtration system and sinks will allow students to drink, brush their teeth, and cook their food with clean and safe water.

Our Partners:

In order to successfully bring clean water to the students at Ban Huai Yang Elementary School, we will be partnering with an NGO called The New Life Church. For the past two years, PUC has cultivated relationships with the members of the church. They will serve as the liasons with the community to ensure that we can bring the most sustainable solution to the Ban Huai community. Together, the members of the local community and cohorts of students have developed and built two successful projects: building sinks for clean water access, as well as a separate water filtration project at two nearby schools.
