We are Texas Taekwondo, back to back National Collegiate Champions. We've gone from being the underdogs that no one expected to win to being in the national Taekwondo spotlight. We need your help to raise $7,500 to send our athletes to the Collegiate Championships in spring so we can defend our National Championship title. Collegiates is a unique experience for every member in the club, and we want to support as many athletes as possible with the trip. Help us send a herd of longhorns decked out in burnt orange to the tournament!
Travel costs are expensive, and we want to assist as many athletes as possible. This tournament is important for athletes of all skill levels, as it stimulates growth individually and for our program as a whole. We are dedicated to fostering an enironment where student athletes have room to grow and challenge themselves, both as Taekwondo practicioners and as people. Collegiates creates that environment which is why we want to send 50 people to compete. While Collegiates is a unique experience for everyone, something that happens for everyone is a sense of support and family that comes with 40+ people screaming "Texas Fight" from the sidelines.
For some of our members, this will be their first time to travel as adults, which is a valuable learning experience. Since we are a family, we have older members that act as mentor for the inexperienced members. Some of the memories that stand out to previous members from Collegiates start around a forgotten piece of gear and ends with the entire team rallying around them to help support them.
Alumni have taken other experiences from Collegiates that have helped them later in life:
Andrea Wilson, Collegiates Competitor in 2016, learned "Look over the challenge that's in front of you... because the prize is far greater on the other side."
Rachel Agnite, Collegiates Competitor 2014-2019 "Learn from your downs and don’t dwell too much on your highs. Enjoy each collegiates you have because each one is special in how they bring the entire team closer than they already are."
Collegiates is just as much about the growth of our program as it is of the individual athletes. Every person takes away a unique experience from this tournament, which is pretty powerful in a room full of 49 people who just fought. This tournament is the one time of the year where our program as a whole gets tested. Our "secret" to success these last two years hasn't been extended training or expensive equipment; it's been our club culture. Here at Texas Taekwondo, we are a family, a collected diverse group of people with all sorts of interests who come together not only to train and kick each other, but to support each other as well. The bonds that we form with each other at Collegiates are unparalleled. It is what contributes to our team being more like a family. We'd like to invite you to join our family and donate to our fundraising project so we can bring as many people as we can to the next Collegiate tournament.
Your donation will help cover transportation for one athlete on the day of the tournament. Collegiate tournament venues are often found in high-traffic areas, making ridesharing services to and from the venue a significant expense. Rental cars give us the freedom to arrive at the venue as early as possible to get warmed up before our competitors!
Your donation will cover the cost of 4 uniforms for our athletes. Although we practice in a relatively casual environment, tournament time calls for appropriate attire. Many athletes do not have their own uniforms, so your contribution will help us purchase a set for these athletes to share!
Your donation will cover the tournament registration and student verification fees for one athlete. The tournament registration system can be daunting for first-time competitors so veteran members try to meet up and help them complete registration while early registration is still open!
Your donation will cover hotel costs for one night, for 4 athletes. It’s important that our athletes have a comfortable place to sleep the night before they fight. Sharing rooms helps our athletes keep each other responsible and provides a unique bonding experience!
Your donation will allow us to purchase four pairs of electronic scoring socks for the club. These special socks are crucial in activating the sensors on the electronic scoring systems worn by athletes. We would like to offer members that aren’t able to purchase their own socks the opportunity to compete as well!
Your donation will cover the cost of a plane ticket to west coast, where collegiates will be held in the spring. Flights are one of the biggest expenses for individuals and pose a significant barrier for some of our potential tournament competitors. Your contribution will allow us to reduce the travel cost per member to help more members travel with us!
This donation will cover housing costs of 4 athletes for the entire duration of the trip. It's important that the hotel we choose is close to the tournament venue and in a good area so we can reduce transit times on the day our athletes fight!
Your donation will cover the costs of flights for 4 of our athletes on this trip. Traveling as a team helps build solidarity as we help each other get through airport security and find the right gate. It provides the experienced travelers with the opportunity to be leaders and help people that have never traveled independently before.
Your donation will cover the cost of housing the entire team for one night of this trip. Staying in the same hotel and rooming with each other helps form bonds between our members as they stay up discussing their fights after the day of their tournament.
Your donation will help us reach our set fundraising goal and send 12 athletes, fully funded, to Collegiates!
