24 hours left!

December 04, 2019

So far, we've raised $2,877, and we're so grateful for everyone's support! We only have 24 hours left in our campaign; please help us finish strong!

We have a mantra in all of our classes - get 1% better every day. Sometimes, it's hard to feel like we're progressing if we focus on too many things all at once. This mantra allows everyone to pick one small thing to work on each day. Getting better by 50% or 25% can be overwhelming, and isn't feasible even for the best of athletes on a daily basis. Sometimes, showing up to practice and trying, especially when we as student-athletes feel the pressure of the semester coming to an end, can be our 1% for the day.

Our Collegiate tournament is is 121 days away. If we continue with our mantra until then, we'll be 121% better than we are right now. Growth isn't always easy to measure, which is why tournaments like Collegiates are important. At the end of the day, it's not as much about competing against all of the other schools as it is competing against ourselves, and being able to measure how much we've grown.

Thank you for helping us on our journey!

What We're Thankful For

November 27, 2019

We're only $78 away from $2,000! Thank you to everyone who has supported us this far!

As our athletes travel across Texas, and across the nation to return to their families, we'd like to take some time to practice gratitude. We are thankful for each other; together we create an environment that empowers everyone to test their limits while knowing that messing up is a part of the growing process. We are thankful for our coaching staff; they continually invest in our growth and believe in us, sometimes before we learn to believe in ourselves. We are thankful for our student officer team; they work hard to ensure our club functions and grows. We are thankful for our alumni; our program would not be what it is today without the work of everyone before us. We are thankful for every coach, instructor, and master that has trained with us; their perspective helps us further challenge ourselves. And we are thankful for all of our families, friends, and loved ones; many of us would not be the same without your support.

We are so very lucky to have all of these things, and more, to be thankful for.

Collegiates Date Release

November 21, 2019

Thank you to everyone that has donated! Right now, we are only $4 away from $1,500!

The National Collegiate Taekwondo Association has just announced that the 2020 National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships will be held April 3-5 at The University of California Berkeley! With this information, we estimate that the total cost per athlete will be about $600. We need your continued help to make this trip more affordable for our team!

The last time Collegiates was at UC Berkeley was in 2014. The Texas Taekwondo team that went is pictured below. This time, we're working to bring back a trophy and National Championship title with us!

Team Bonding

November 17, 2019

We have passed the $1,000 mark, and we are so grateful to everyone who has helped us get this far!

After two back to back weekends of trainings and tournaments, we took some time to disconnect this weekend, going camping as a group. Almost 40 members joined us in Pace Bend Park as we worked together to set up camp, played volleyball and capture the flag together, and, of course, made s'mores together. Opportunities like these give us more time to bond as a team so we can better support each other at all of our tournaments. It's also nice to spend time as a team when we're not trying to kick each other in the face.

Local Tournaments

November 09, 2019

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our campaign so far! Your support means so much to us.

Right now, we are working on applying what we've learned in class to a higher-pressured scenario. Last weekend, we hosted Texas Taekwondo College Day, where our poomsae competitors got some training with three-time world champion, AJ Munoz. Our sparring competitors matched up with visiting high school athletes and athletes from A&M, learning how to make adjustments between rounds.

This weekend, we have about 20 members competing in sparring and poomsae at a local tournament with the Texas Taekwondo Varsity League. Both of these experiences are invaluable for our athletes, as they are building blocks to the National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships in the spring.

At both of these events, we are not just practicing kicking, punching, or forms. We are also practicing our cheers and forming bonds that will carry us to our next Collegiate Championship. We believe that championships are not just won by practice, but by the support of the familial network that our program facilitates every year.

Choose a giving level

$22

White Belt

Your donation will help cover transportation for one athlete on the day of the tournament. Collegiate tournament venues are often found in high-traffic areas, making ridesharing services to and from the venue a significant expense. Rental cars give us the freedom to arrive at the venue as early as possible to get warmed up before our competitors!

$45

Yellow Belt

Your donation will cover the cost of 4 uniforms for our athletes. Although we practice in a relatively casual environment, tournament time calls for appropriate attire. Many athletes do not have their own uniforms, so your contribution will help us purchase a set for these athletes to share!

$82.50

Green Belt

Your donation will cover the tournament registration and student verification fees for one athlete. The tournament registration system can be daunting for first-time competitors so veteran members try to meet up and help them complete registration while early registration is still open!

$150

Blue Belt

Your donation will cover hotel costs for one night, for 4 athletes. It’s important that our athletes have a comfortable place to sleep the night before they fight. Sharing rooms helps our athletes keep each other responsible and provides a unique bonding experience!

$250

Red Belt

Your donation will allow us to purchase four pairs of electronic scoring socks for the club. These special socks are crucial in activating the sensors on the electronic scoring systems worn by athletes. We would like to offer members that aren’t able to purchase their own socks the opportunity to compete as well!

$327

Black Belt

Your donation will cover the cost of a plane ticket to west coast, where collegiates will be held in the spring. Flights are one of the biggest expenses for individuals and pose a significant barrier for some of our potential tournament competitors. Your contribution will allow us to reduce the travel cost per member to help more members travel with us!

$450

Second Degree Black Belt

This donation will cover housing costs of 4 athletes for the entire duration of the trip. It's important that the hotel we choose is close to the tournament venue and in a good area so we can reduce transit times on the day our athletes fight!

$1,308

Third Degree Black Belt

Your donation will cover the costs of flights for 4 of our athletes on this trip. Traveling as a team helps build solidarity as we help each other get through airport security and find the right gate. It provides the experienced travelers with the opportunity to be leaders and help people that have never traveled independently before.

$6,300

Taekwondo Master

Your donation will cover the cost of housing the entire team for one night of this trip. Staying in the same hotel and rooming with each other helps form bonds between our members as they stay up discussing their fights after the day of their tournament.

$7,500

Taekwondo Grandmaster

Your donation will help us reach our set fundraising goal and send 12 athletes, fully funded, to Collegiates!
